Following is a post, that I wrote the night we performed the Birds... Don't know why it didn't post then, but here goes again!
The Birds
Well, we did it. We've now officially performed at the Moscow Art
Theatre. Well... be it a studio show, but still. We've performed.
The show went well, in my opinion. Considering that I'm an actor, trained by people who always say the work ain't done, I think that speaks volumes. For my cast, the graduating cast, this was a trial by fire, and I think we stood the test. I would like to congratulate Dr. Schneider on his work being performed at the Moscow Art, and also Alex Gelman, for taking a chance on something like this. I know the process was hard, and that the performance was a little rough, but all things considered, I think we came, we saw, and we performed. Many thanks to Markle, Deborah and Kathryn for their endless devotion and time spent on this project.
For me, one of the more interesting things here is the fact that the Moscow Art Theatre School is holding auditions right now. The door is surrounded by enthusiastic students trying to get an audition but some seem to turn away disapointed (as far as I can understand!) Every day we walk right past them into the school, and I can't help but feel a little bad for them. It's very rare to see 14 year old kids smoke out of stress, and personally I think it's rather interesting considdering that their mothers are standing/sitting right next to them. some of them audition on the floor that our classes are held at, and they all look at us (at least me) with some sort of expectation that I don't alway feel I can't live up to.
My first Ballet classes (first dance class, EVER, since I was about 6, and those consisted mostly of hiding under chairs...) here are really interesting. The teacher, the old primaballerina from the Bolshoi, is kicking my butt, but it's so much fun. Every day, the routine becomes less confusing, and considdering that I have two left feet, that's pretty good (as I'm sure Paula Fraz can attest to...). Movement is streaching me to the limmits, littereally, but every day I do something I could not do before, so something is working about that class.
Time is running out
I hope all is well at the home front:
